Carrot Cookies Recipe

Some children have been asking for a copy of the recipe we used to make the carrot cookies, so here it is:

Carrot Cookies (makes about 12)
  • 1 tablespoon margarine
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
  • 6 tablespoons of self-raising flour (plain flour add 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder)
  • 4 tablespoon of grated raw carrot
Method
  1. Cream the margarine and the sugar together until light and fluffy
  2. Mix in the grated carrot and the vanilla essence
  3. Fold in the flour
  4. Drop spoonfuls onto greased tray and press down a little
  5. Sprinkle tops of cookies with extra sugar
Bake in oven at 220ºC, 425ºF, gas mark 7 for about 15-20 minutes

P7B at Ghosts of War poetry workshop

P7B enjoyed a super poetry workshop (led by Lorna and Ken) at Edinburgh Castle today. We began in the war memorial where Lorna and Ken drew our attention to various features of the building. After that we went to the room that we would be based in. (Lorna called it the Devil's Elbow!)

Next, Lorna helped Archie dress in some of the kit that WW1 soldiers would have been issued with:

Then it was time to examine some WW1 artefacts, learning what they were and thinking about who might have held them 100 years ago.

After lunch we went down to the museum to look at some more WW1 artefacts before heading back up to the 'classroom' to work on the third verse of our poems:

Finally there was some time for a few of us to read our poems to the class:

When we are back in school tomorrow we will work on up-levelling our poems.
